Layman SSM
SSM Layman Movement

The Sisters of the Most Holy Mother of Sorrows have a long history of communion and collaboration with the laity. This movement was first established in 1983. The Movement includes Catholic women and men of deep faith who respond to their baptismal call and nurture their spiritual life according to the charism of the Sisters of the Most Holy Mother of Sorrows. In this way they constitute a Christian community that promotes the Kingdom of God.
While remaining committed to their family life in the service of the local church, they accept the charism of Mother Frances Streitel and the mission of the Sisters of the Most Holy Mother of Sorrows. They are called to promote the Life of Prayer, SSM values and mission; they encourage each other in their spiritual journey with mutual respect and acceptance.
The SSM Lay Movement establishes a complementary discipleship relationship with the sisters that calls for commitment as follows:
– Accompany each other with mutual support on life’s journey towards holiness
– Inspiring each other to live the legacy of Mother Frances Streitel
– Evangelising by proclaiming God’s goodness in word and deed
– Responding to the needs of those who suffer, especially the poor
– Promoting a society of justice, peace and love
The movement is present in Austria, Brazil, the Caribbean, Germany and the U.S.A.
In the Italian Delegation, the SSM movement has not yet been born.
